Canon, where’s my 5D II?

Some said PMA. Then they said April. June. Those have all passed and still we have yet to see a Canon 5D replacement announced. The latest rumors (here or here) predict a September announcement in conjunction with Photokina.

In a year that’s been dominated by Nikon, you’d think Canon would be anxious to get this thing out the door. On the other hand, they’d probably rather wait than risk another Mark III fiasco.

Canon's 5D is long overdue for an upgrade

The Canon 5D is long overdue for an upgrade

The most recent rumors tell of a 16MP sensor, 6-8 FPS, and a … pop-up flash? Frankly, I don’t care what the specs are anymore–nor have I seen such ongoing hype for a camera upgrade. I suppose that’s a testament to quality of the original 5D.

Here’s to hoping the new one is worth the wait.

  1. No kidding. It’s long overdue indeed. Please be at least comparable to Nikon’s latest offering. Pretty please?
